Canonical Self - Similar Tilings
نویسنده
چکیده
An iterated function system consisting of contractive similarity mappings has a unique attractor F ⊆ R which is invariant under the action of the system, as was shown by Hutchinson [Hut]. This paper shows how the action of the function system naturally produces a tiling T of the convex hull of the attractor. These tiles form a collection of sets whose geometry is typically much simpler than that of F , yet retains key information about both F and Φ. In particular, the tiles encode all the scaling data of Φ. We give the construction, along with some examples and applications. The tiling T is the foundation for the higher-dimensional extension of the theory of complex dimensions which was developed in [La-vF1] for the case d = 1.

Geometry of Canonical Self-similar Tilings
We give several different geometric characterizations of the situation in which the parallel set Fε of a self-similar set F can be described by the inner ε-parallel set T −ε of the associated canonical tiling T , in the sense of [16]. For example, Fε = T−ε ∪Cε if and only if the boundary of the convex hull C of F is a subset of F , or if the boundary of E, the unbounded portion of the complemen...
متن کامل2 00 7 Self - Dual Tilings with Respect to Star - Duality
The concept of star-duality is described for self-similar cut-and-project tilings in arbitrary dimensions. This generalises Thurston's concept of a Galois-dual tiling. The dual tilings of the Penrose tilings as well as the Ammann-Beenker tilings are calculated. Conditions for a tiling to be self-dual are obtained.
متن کاملA Fractal Version of the Pinwheel Tiling
Dedicated to the inspiration of Benoit Mandelbrot. The pinwheel tilings are a remarkable class of tilings of the plane, and our main goal in this paper is to introduce a fractal version of them. We will begin by describing how to construct the pinwheel tilings themselves and by discussing some of the properties that have generated so much interest. After that we will develop the fractal version...
متن کاملFractal tiles associated with shift radix systems☆
Shift radix systems form a collection of dynamical systems depending on a parameter r which varies in the d-dimensional real vector space. They generalize well-known numeration systems such as beta-expansions, expansions with respect to rational bases, and canonical number systems. Beta-numeration and canonical number systems are known to be intimately related to fractal shapes, such as the cla...
متن کاملDigraph Self-Similar Sets and Aperiodic Tilings
Self-similarity is a concept often associated with fractal geometry. There are many interesting self-similar sets in the plane which would not generally be considered fractal, however (although their boundaries might be fractal). Such sets provide a fresh way of looking at tilings of the plane. Furthermore, a generalization of self-similarity, called digraph self-similarity, provides a way to c...
